Bringing the garden inside for the winter

The one nice thing about winter's arrival, and having to say goodbye to the garden, is that some of it can come indoors. This bowl of succulents thrived all summer and even survived the first night of frost (we forgot to cover it!) but now it's safely tucked inside near a sunny window. We're hoping it will survive a winter inside and be able to take its place on the bridge baluster once again in the spring.

Yes, it's Euphorbia tirucalli. It probably needs cutting back but I've heard so much about how toxic the sap is that I'm a little nervous to mess with it! But it is really pretty. I just hope it does as well in the house as it did in the garden.

Ladies: I live in the desert southwest and we have both of these (firestick and Euphorbia growing outside. Please be very careful with this aterial. I was just told to trim back the Firestick in my front yard and the white sap got into my eye. After checking with a local nursery I am on my was to urgent care. One of their employees had to go to hospital when it happened to him. Euphorbia (how many varieties I do not know) can kill you or leave you blind. Please research this and share the information. I advise getting rid of it. Take care. Barbara B, La Quinta CA

Thank you for the warning, Barbara. Only the hen and chicks survived the winter, so I don't have to worry about either of those risky plants. I'll be aware of them in the future and keep them on my plants-to-avoid list. Thanks again.
