I imagine you are enjoying every moment of color around you, and will look at these photos again when the leaves are gone with the wind.

Thanks for sharing, our trees are slow to turn this year, but after today's cooler weather and rain, well, I am hoping...

I was just in Central Kansas visiting my parents. I loved to see and 'hear' the cottonwood trees. Lots of yellow! Your pictures are nice.

I love the whisper of cottonwoods, too, Mrs. Mobunny!

Melanie, we ran the sprinklers today for the last time this year. I'm sad thinking about our beautiful green grass turning brown. I'll miss it!

Kathy, hope your leaves are turning now. I think you're blessed to have fall come slowly! That means spring comes quicker, right? :)

I love the sound of Cottonwoods too--whispers from the past and the language of Kansas. Your small town has beautiful vistas--especially your own backyard. Thanks for sharing.

Funny, here in Georgia Fleabane grows like a common weed, and its Plains Coreopsis that I plant in spades. Shocking to me that you pull it up. It, Indian Blanket, Tickseed, and Blackeyed Susan are my tough wildflowers.

I plant them along the edge of the asphault along roads... the run off from the road waters them extra so they bloom like crazy, and the road provides the nice walk way for people to walk along the edge admiring the flowers. Attracts butterflies and joggers. Not so much meat on the butterflies, but those joggers are good eatin'. If you can catch them, they get faster every year, damn Darwin and his natural selection at work.

Thanks for posting the high res picture of Coreopsis and Batchelor Buttons together, I wanted see what they look like before I ordered them from Everwilde and mixed the two... Coreopsis because it grows like crazy and grabs the eye, and Bachelor buttons as background multicolor so it won't be a sea of just yellow and red.
